It has long grass-like leaves, and the stems have a purple tinge. The purple to rose-blue 3-petaled flowers have bright yellow stamens and bloom most profusely when planted in full sun. Each flower blooms for a single day and shrivels when touched. Cutting flowers back in the summer may result in more fall blooms.
